About Blackbird Pond

Blackbird Pond is a “preppy” bunch of rump-shacking, solid stomp, alternative-country-rockers from southeastern Virginia. This four-member band’s sound is so unique that various sources have yet to compare them to one cohesive musical genre or singular artistic talent.

Fans, media outlets, industry analysts and peers have compared Blackbird Pond’s rock-based sound to the likes of Led Zeppelin, Lynard Skynard, The Doors and the Rolling Stones, while amalgamating it with the: country rock feel of Credence Clearwater Revival (CCR), blues/soul/R&B styling of a caffeine-buzzed Nina Simone, and strong contralto vocals of Tina Turner… can you imagine? Additionally, their approach to song-writing has been matched up to contemporary artists such as the White Strips, Nickelback, Garth Brooks and Coldplay. Blackbird Pond was even asked to perform at the John Lennon Songwriting Contest at The Dewey Beach Music Festival. A record producer even called them the “rock-version of the Black-Eye Peas.”

In addition to their unique, ubiquitous style of music, Blackbird Pond is also known for their preppy “Polo” style attire, high-energy opening and closing numbers, and – depending on who is singing lead – soulful feminine and powerful masculine ballads. They are possibly the only alternative rock/pop band who – in the words of frontman Jim Stoker on their performance of the fan-favorite accapella So In Love With You – “can hold a Gibson SG guitar and perform an original accapella while our drummer stands on his stool to attack his drums like a mad panther; soon comes salty, sultry-sophisticated vocals, but are later revved-up to become a raspy, powered engine goddess-sent voice.”

Blackbird Pond’s songs have crossed-over to different genres and demographics. Their soulful/bluesy song Brown Bag was voted “All That” by fans and Roll Daddy received positive reviews on, respectively, popular top-40 pop and R&B stations. In addition, the power ballad Sunday Afternoon has been featured on National Public Radio (NPR). Blackbird Pond broadcast influence is world-wide since their songs have played in Top 40 and Rock U.S. markets, European countries and the Philippians.

Mainstream media, music organizations and the public have all given Blackbird Pond rave reviews. Nationally and internationally, they have been featured in many news publications and on a variety of on-air broadcasts. Over the years, the band has been awarded music nominations and recognized for their contributions for supporting many national-based charity organizations.

The fan-base of Blackbird Pond has grown significantly with performances up and down the east coast – including many New York City and Washington D.C. concerts, in Los Angeles at UCLA, Texas and most recently South Dakota at the Legendary Sturgis Buffalo Chip (The Largest Bike rally In the World). Their dedication to rock a crowd is so strong that they once braved a winter storm by driving to attend a venue in Boone, NC; conditions consisted of traveling on an icy, mountain-cliff, narrow road through thick fog at a top speed of five miles per hour.

Currently, Blackbird Pond recently completed their third CD entitled www.blackbirdpond.com – Vol. III and music video Sexy Conversation. The band plans to continue their tour and take on new projects.
